Malaysian Indian Minority Is Experiencing Oppression

Malaysian Indian Minority Is Experiencing Oppression

Why do I think so? Here's why:

Formal political channel is closed -this is evident as experienced by Member of Parliament (MP) Sothinathan who was suspended for speaking up for the Indian community in Malaysian parliament and the pain MP Devamany is undergoing now, having been told off by Minister Nazri for speaking up on behalf of the minority Indian community and the fact that he is awaiting to be called by the Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to explain his "misbehaviour" in parliament. The Malaysian Indian minority is facing a situation of not having a political channel despite having 28 elected representative in the Federal Parliament and State Assemblies and a further 6 Senators in the Senate. I hypothesise that the fear of not being allowed to stand in another election is used effectively against these individuals, transforming them into mere quislings and not bona fide representatives of the Indian minorities.

Economic opportunities are limited - overt racism built deep in the psyche of many non-Indians and institutionalised racism perpetuated by government policies have left the minority Indians in Malaysia with little high quality employment opportunities. While it is often repeated that there are too many Indian lawyers and doctors (as if it is a crime to be an educated and productive member of the citizenry), the fact remains that a vast majority of the minority Indians live in abject poverty. Unnatural hindrances have also been put up to "choke" the upward mobility of aspiring Indians. Without going into details, the fact that numerous local examinations that supersede international professional qualifications have sprung up in the last 20 years as an effective method to limit the number of minority Indians from breaking the glass (or should I say concrete) ceiling. For example, a graduate of University of London law course has an 80%-90% chance of failing in the local Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP), thus preventing him/her from becoming a lawyer. The Malaysian society accepts this without questioning the logic of London-trained lawyers regularly failing to succeed at CLP while fully knowing that Malaysia has no educational institution of international or regional stature.

Legal options are not credible – While there are pockets of independent–minded members of the judiciary, anyone in the know must be able to recognise the issues around the lack of support from the Muslim judiciary on matters related to non-Muslim and minority rights. A spate of recent judgements as reported in local and international press support this view.

Cultural institutions are being destroyed – religious freedom in Malaysia is becoming narrower. New churches and temples are not granted permission to operate. Existing temples are being systematically destroyed on the basis that these are illegal structures. These temples were built prior to the setting up of local councils and as such had no reason to submit building plans. Further, a simplistic argument that “Indians like to set up temples everywhere” is being used to mislead the public sentiment. It is a natural behaviour among Asians across Asia to set up minor “prayer” areas and the prompt removal of these by the local authorities is not the same thing as destroying a temple built 60 years ago.

Racism is rampant – Indians are generally seen as dirty, smelly, and drunk troublemakers. Any small incident is often taken as to represent the entire society. Very few minority Indians are able to climb up the career ladder and with the professional options limited, carry on unfulfilled lives. This happens in a country that needs more professionals. Such racism is apparent from the remarks made by ministers (e.g. Nazri and Johari) who term Indian protesters as “trouble makers”, “crazies”, “crooks” et cetera.

Housing opportunities are limited – as a result of poverty and low economic potential, the minority Indians have limited opportunities for good housing. Despite their poverty, they are always expected to pay the full price of any house they purchase while a Malay billionaire can always look forward to getting a 10% discount for any house that he chooses to buy. Such is the fairness of Malaysian race-based affirmative action.

Higher education is shut out for Indians – Cheap and high quality education at local universities is largely denied to poor Indian children who excel in their studies but Malay children from rich families are given the opportunity to study in overseas Ivy League universities notwithstanding their mediocre exam results. Indians have no choice but to enrol in costly local private colleges which effectively shuts out the poorer minority Indians. The government manipulates statistics and even has a two-stream pre-university examination, one for majority Malays (which is easier to excel) and another for the minorities (which is purposely made more challenging –thus hardly any Malay ever take this exam). Then the students are selected on “merit” – pulling massive wool over the public’s eyes.

Health system availability is not uniform – due to overt racism, illiteracy among the minority Indians and downright poverty, the Indian patients at government and some Malay-owned private medical establishments are regularly mistreated, ignored and seen as a lesser human. The extent of racism spewed out by the Malay doctors and especially Malay nurses at the local hospitals can only be experienced, not described.

It would be hard for any person concerned with human rights not to be concerned. However, race and religion play a major part in forming opinion in Malaysia and as it stands now, it is quite acceptable for the other communities in Malaysia to ignore the cries for salvation that is emerging from the minority Indians.

This is now more apparent from the feedback (or backlash?) the minority Indian society is receiving against their decision to have a public rally on 24 Nov 2007 in Kuala Lumpur.

It is quite clear that the Indians have to implement a “bootstrapping” strategy to lift themselves out of their predicament.

It is high time the government of Malaysia shifts some attention to the minority group. Otherwise, Malaysia would not be a successful multi-racial nation. We all should lend a hand to the minority and the poor. Let's unite for a better future and let us pray that we would not become like Indonesia, where the main reason for such atrocity simply came from the fact that the poor is very unsatisfied with the whole system of the society and government.

That will be good. Let all the Indian brothers vote the opposition. After all, 7% of Malaysians are Indians.

MIC, when you are no longer useful, UMNO will kick you ass out of the coalition. After that, good luck to you.

Let's deny BN the majority this coming election.

Enough is enough, stop treating the indians as 3rd class citizen.NO EDUCATIONAL/FINANCIAL/ECONOMICS/ SUPPORT FROM THE GOVT.On top of it the politician being insensitive to the minority community. The body who suppose to represent the community are pocketing the fund. The places of worship are demolished in the name of development.FRUSTRATIONS,ANGER,STARTED TO BURST.THATS THE OUTCOME OF THE HINDRAF GATHERING.

For a start, the repressed guys should stop selling their votes for a song from their talaivar, right? ....
Then you can jump and scream all you want!!

Having 28 elected representative in the Federal Parliament and State Assemblies and a further 6 Senators in the Senate, tak cukup lagi ka ? When not even one constituency is an Indian majority area. Do you people realise that UMNO / Malay majority seats were sacrificed to allocate the Indians. You people are ungrateful la. Common. What more u people want ? Don't tell me that you can't relate your problems through the 28 reps. Shit man.

I sense that Indians / Hindus eventually would request an autonomy then a separate state. Thats their hidden agenda.

"Unnatural Hindrance"..that's what is exactly happenning.

When right to survive is purposely denied then the oppressed will resort to alternative ways to continue the survival in a land of apartheid. What happened in South Africa is happening here.

We have the right to live!

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,

I am a Malaysian citizen, and I am a subscriber of ASTRO Satellite TV Broadcast here in Malaysia. Recently I have subscribed to the ASTRO News Package which contains Al Jazeera and other foreign news media.

I was highly looking forward for the international news broadcast on all of the stations provided by the package when I had shocking news from our local news station claiming that the foreign news broadcasters are lying and making stories without properly acquiring the real facts and they are very good actors !!! Furthermore these claims were also made by our government's politicians.

Now, this is rather disturbing and disappointing for me as I have only subscribed for the service for just a few days and I'm being bombarded with such claims. This eventually made me to think:

Am I an IDIOT to subscribe, pay and end up watching acts and lies

OR

Is there is any conspiracy going on here????

I clearly understand the fact that Al Jazeera has a strong principal called the Code of Ethics and you strictly follow it. But the claims by the politicians and local media here make me to think otherwise.

The claims below were broadcasted on 27-November-2007 in TV3 news station. Similar claims were also made in other local newscasters. This is just a few of the claims.

1. TV3 news station claimed that the foreign media cannot be trusted as they do not report the actual news.

2. YAB Datuk Sri Samy Velu claims that there were only 4,600 demonstrators on 25-November-2007 and NOT 50,000 or any other number as claimed by the foreign media.

3. TV3 news station said that the questions thrown at the Information Minister of Malaysia by Al Jazeera (Al Jazeera's name was mentioned) was to purposely create a scene to show that Malaysia is in kiosk situation and Al Jazeera purposely built up the story from the real one. They also mentioned the criticism made by the Information Minister to Al Jazeera.

(Prior to sending the mail, I did some research on the net and actually found the video clip of the above Interview in Youtube. And I actually laughed myself out listening to the reply given by our Minister. Pity him for his language. But in the Malaysian news channel TV3, they only provided the "CLEAN" version of the transcript and the actual call was not aired. This makes me even more confused!!! Who is telling the truth here???)

Now, if Al Jazeera is telling lies,

It is high time for Al Jazeera to review back their Code of Ethics and provide the truth for the people. If you can't do it then don't cheat the entire world. And don't broadcast your news at all. I am not a fool to keep paying for acts and lies.

And if Al Jazeera is NOT lying,

Well, what the heck. The damage has already been done. No one in Malaysia is going to listen to your news anyway due to the "VERY GOOD" publicity done by the Malaysian politicians and the local media. By the way, did I mention that our local media could also be received by our neighboring countries like Singapore and Thailand?

FINAL CONCLUSION

It is not my intension to insult Al Jazeera, other foreign media, our local media or the politicians. If you feel offended by this email, I sincerely apologize to you. Whatever the scenario is, all that I want (and the rest of Malaysian citizens who are in my situation want) is the truth. Since Al Jazeera's and other foreign media's names have been badly damaged here in Malaysia, Al Jazeera and the other foreign media's SHOULD do something to fix it back or you may start loosing your viewer in Malaysia.(and its surrounding countries too)

I hope you could keep my details confidential and properly investigate on this issue (just incase if you don't trust me) and find out the real truth behind such a drastic claims by our local media. That is if you still follow your Code of Ethics.

Yours truly,

A concerned viewer.

PS:

1. i am also forwarding this mail to other foreign media for their response.

2. i will be posting this transcript in the internet via blogs so that the viewers around the world will be aware that this matter has been brought to your attension and for them to express their views.

TechFun has left a new comment on the post “Al-Jazeera”:

MG: First, have you ever seen unbiased evidence of Al Jazeera falsifying reports? I have not. Second, have your politicians ever lied to you before? In my case in the USA, I cannot say yes.

So far for me, Al Jazeera has a better track record for honesty than the US Government.

MG has left a new comment on the post “Al-Jazeera”:

dear Techfun,

thank you for your comment. i wish to state that I am not claiming Al Jazeera is falsifying news.

All i want is the truth.

Now, let me give you a sample of what i mean.

This is what Al Jazeera has claimed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glaXc34K3bY&feature=related

and now, this is what malaysian media says(watch till the end)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wcG0QT1TUc&feature=related

Clearly someone is telling lies here.

If Al Jazeera is not liying, they better start defending their point. else i would be forced to sue Al Jazeera to get the real truth out of everyone.

please note that i still have faith that Al Jazeera follows their Code of Ethics. But the whole country of malaysia has declared them as liers.

so tell me, how am i to accept, trust or use any information from Al Jazeera if my country declared them as liers ?

TechFun has left a new comment on the post “Al-Jazeera”:

MG: i watched both videos and I don’t see any conflict. I did notice that on the second one, BEFORE the English portion, the footage was all of cheerful peaceful protesters with no evidence of the people sprayed with water or soap or whatever that was. And the person from the government kept contradicting himself about allowing protest and the protest being illegal. He seemed to refuse to give a clear answer.

Not speaking whatever language was being spoken on the early part of the video its hard for me to judge, but nothing in the Al Jazeera coverage seemed to be at odds with the video footage shown on both videos. The second video just seemed to stay away from that whole part of the protest where the police intervened.

MG has left a new comment on the post “Al-Jazeera”:

good, now have a look at this news.

http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/11/13/nation/19453633&sec=nation

quote :

Describing the coverage as biased, unfair and confusing to people living overseas, he said he would write to the station stating that the Government was aware of what the station was trying to do.

now thats what i call as a hard slam impact right on the face of Al Jazeera.

And being a fan of Al Jazeera you are now marked as a fan of Al Jazeera, the satellite television station that is biased, unfair and confusing the people.

MG has left a new comment on the post “Al-Jazeera”:

they make use of Al Jazeera, took their video, edited it (with or without authorization), made the demonstration to look calm, and finally claim Al Jazeera to be a big lier and actors.

Kudos.

Your view on higher education is not quite true, if you take the Chinese into consideration. The competition among Chinese student is much stronger until some Chinese top students fail to obtained a place at the Courses that they prefered. Very often, Chinese students with decent results failed to enter local Uni whereas Indian students with the similar result could easily obtained a place at local Uni.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous (12.01am) was right to say that Chinese lost out to Indian students on education/scholarship opportunities. My personal experience told me so. When my daughter was called to attend interview for JPA scholarship in 2006, she and some 30 odd Chinese students (all with at least 10 A1s in SPM) was grouped with 2 Indian and 4 Malay students (all the Malay students had inferior results than the Chinese and Indians). Not surprisingly, none of the Chinese students were offered the scholarship, not even a second interview. All the 4 Malay students were offered scholarship along with 1 Indian student (50% success rate). So it is very true that Indian students do have a slight advantage over Chinese students.

don't be fooled by MIC's tactics to install a hotline too soon....

let's see how fast this is setup and how effective it is. This is probably a ploy to win more votes during the elections and then it will be abandoned for some stupid reason or other.

Effectiveness of this hotline should be reflected in the speed of responses and the changes implemented..

If they just pick up the phone and go make a coffee while you speak, it defeats the purpose.

I have been following the many comments of non Hindu Malaysians about the HINDRAF rally. It has been criticised for not being a ‘broad based rights issue group’. This diatribe has indeed been an eye opener for me. It shows how fragmented Malaysian society has become. So blind it is, to the plight of a small but sizeable minority group - daily facing the contempt and humiliation dished out by the ruling elite. The rally you witnessed is an act of desperation of a people bullied, battered and humiliated beyond endurance – it is not a ‘gotoh royang’. If Malaysia were a grand ‘kenduri’ the Hindus are the stray dogs hanging around the edges of the event. They would be VERY, VERY lucky if they get pelted with offal from the tables; they would be VERY lucky if it were just footwear thrown at them – but it is more likely the dog catcher would be dispatched to put down them down. That is exactly what is happening now.
You have face the contempt that Hindu children face in schools where Malay children, teachers, parents openly mock and set them aside – telling Malay children not to mix – words like “Hindus are ‘Haram’ ‘Kotor’ ‘Pariah’, easily trip off their tongues.
You have face the easy contempt the token Hindu colleague at work faces; trying bringing in Indian sweets during Deepavali and see how you Malay colleagues take it- you only invite mockery and humiliation. Why do I say ‘token Hindu’? – because he/she is good to have around when Muslims head off for long prayers on Fridays.

You have to face the glee and righteousness with which the WAHABISTS’ go about destroying temples (I am not talking roadside shacks but sizeable temples over 100years old). It the same contempt and arrogance they displayed when a disabled dead Hindu ex- soldier’s body was snatched from his wife and child, to be buried as Muslim – claiming he had converted. Why? He was a ‘hero’ who reached the summit of Everest but he was a HINDU so he remained a low ranking soldier but had to claimed to Islam when he died because the WAHABISTS would not allow any ‘glory’ to be attached to anything not ISLAMIC! This is but one example. This is the daily reality of the Hindus living in Malaysia. I am not saying that the treatment of other religious groups is any better. But they (the Wahabists) know how to pick their hapless victims (the Hindus). With Christians there is - powerful America and Europe to voice their concerns on their behalf. In the current worldwide stand off between the Islamic and Christian nations there is kind of perverse ‘holier than thou’ posturing to outdo each other – and thereby a pseudo protective mantle of other monotheist religions, exists in Malaysia.
Hinduism is not an ORGANIZED religion. Hinduism — is a faith without a national organisation, no established church or ecclesiastical hierarchy, no uniform beliefs or modes of worship — it exemplifies as much the diversity of mankind - it is not an IMPERIAL religion - no dictats. It is essentially spiritual, and at its core metaphysical (dealing with the nature of Existence, of Truth and of Knowledge). It is of an ancient civilisation and it has been around for over 4000 years because it accommodates the wide spectrum of individuals – from theological scholars to the man in street seeking ‘divine’ guidance. You are born into Hinduism –it seeks no converts.

So please look hard and you will find ample evidence of how Hindus are treated. How cruelly indifferent and callous the government is to how Muslims treat the disenfranchised Hindus of the country. Then maybe you will understand the spontaneity born out of desperation that brought the HINDUS out on the streets! The Law suit at the British courts bears witness the despairing madness the Hindus have been driven to. It was not this when I was at school - I had alot of Malay friends. They were good muslims but it never occured to them debase hindus the way it has become institutionalized in today in Malaysia

The Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) urges Malaysians of all races and religions to remain calm following street protests by a group Indian Malaysians led by Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF) on Sunday.

ABIM notes with deep concern that some of the actions and contents of various documents issued by HINDRAF, in substance and wordings constitute extreme, exagerated and sensationalised allegations implicating the Muslim community in one way or another. The use of terms and expressions such as “ethnic cleansing”, “permanent colonization” of Indian Malaysians by ” Islamic extremists” “Malay gangs” and the like is clearly racially and religiously unjustified, seditious and borders on the subversive.

However, we believe that this should not be the basis for any unwarranted reactions from the Muslim community. We believe that although there may be grievances amongst the Indian community, the majority of our peace-loving Indian friends and mainstream Hindu organizations do not harbor ill will or undue enmity against the Muslims and are also not agreeable to the manner, style and approach erstwhile adopted by HINDRAF. We would also like to reaffirm our solidarity with the poor and marginalized amongst the Indian community and other races in this country and urge the government and all parties to undertake continuous effort to improve their livelihood.

Let us all be reminded that issues involving racial and religious interests in our multi-communal society are very delicate, sensitive and potentially explosive. Those who are fighting for racial and religious interests should learn from our past history that such issues, if not carefully handled, may cause tensions to flare up. When emotions are left unchecked and the communal temperature is too high, there’s no guarantee that public order and safety can be maintained.

ABIM condemns all forms of racial and and religious extremism and urges peace-loving Malaysians not to take actions that may jeopardize peace, harmony, public order and safety in the country. Although the freedom of assembly and expression are recognised fundamental rights under our Constitution and should generally be exercisable by all citizens, the relevant authorities should be allowed to regulate the exercise of such rights taking into account the circumstances of each case. At the same time we urge the police to observe due restraint and be reasonable in exercising their discretion in handling the situation. We also believe that the current situation is such that it is very irresponsible and dangerous for anyone to manipulate this issue to fan racial sentiments for any political or ulterior agendas.

List of racial discriminations in Malaysia, practiced by government as well as government agencies. This list is an open secret. Best verified by government itself because it got the statistics.

This list is not in the order of importance, that means the first one on the list is not the most important and the last one on the list does not mean least important.

This list is a common knowledge to a lot of Malaysians, especially those non-malays (Chinese, Ibans, Kadazans, Orang Asli, Tamils, etc) who were being racially discriminated.

Figures in this list are estimates only and please take it as a guide only. Government of Malaysia has the most correct figures. Is government of Malaysia too ashamed to publish their racist acts by publishing racial statistics?

This list cover a period of about 50 years since independence (1957).

List of racial discriminations (Malaysia):

(1) Out of all the 5 major banks, only one bank is multi-racial, the rest are controlled by malays

(2) 99% of Petronas directors are malays

(3) 3% of Petronas employees are Chinese

(4) 99% of 2000 Petronas gasoline stations are owned by malays

(5) 100% all contractors working under Petronas projects must be bumis status

(6) 0% of non-malay staffs is legally required in malay companies. But there must be 30% malay staffs in Chinese companies

(7) 5% of all new intake for government army, nurses, polices, is non-malays

(8) 2% is the present Chinese staff in Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), drop from 40% in 1960

(9) 2% is the percentage of non-malay government servants in Putrajaya. But malays make up 98%

(10) 7% is the percentage of Chinese government servants in the whole government (in 2004), drop from 30% in 1960

(11) 95% of government contracts are given to malays

(12) 100% all business licensees are controlled by malay government e.g. Approved Permits, Taxi Permits, etc

(13) 80% of the Chinese rice millers in Kedah had to be sold to malay controlled Bernas in 1980s. Otherwise, life is make difficult for Chinese rice millers

(14) 100 big companies set up, managed and owned by Chinese Malaysians were taken over by government, and later managed by malays since 1970s e.g. MISC, UMBC, UTC, etc

(15) At least 10 Chinese owned bus companies (throughout Malaysia, throughout 40 years) had to be sold to MARA or other malay transport companies due to rejection by malay authority to Chinese application for bus routes and rejection for their application for new buses

(16) 2 Chinese taxi drivers were barred from driving in Johor Larkin bus station. There are about 30 taxi drivers and 3 are Chinese in October 2004. Spoiling taxi club properties was the reason given

(17) 0 non-malays are allowed to get shop lots in the new Muar bus station (November 2004)

(18) 8000 billion ringgit is the total amount the government channeled to malay pockets through ASB, ASN, MARA, privatisation of government agencies, Tabung Haji etc, through NEP over 34 years period

(19) 48 Chinese primary schools closed down since 1968 - 2000

(20) 144 Indian primary schools closed down since 1968 - 2000

(21) 2637 malay primary schools built since 1968 - 2000

(22) 2.5% is government budget for Chinese primary schools. Indian schools got only 1%, malay schools got 96.5%

(26) Only 5% is given to non-malays for government scholarships over 40 years

(27) 0 Chinese or Indians were sent to Japan and Korea under "Look East Policy"

(28) 128 STPM Chinese top students could not get into the course that they aspired e.g. Medicine (in 2004)

(29) 10% place for non-bumi students for MARA science schools beginning from year 2003, but only 7% are filled. Before that it was 100% malays

(30) 50 cases whereby Chinese and Indian Malaysians, are beaten up in the National Service program in 2003

(31) 25% is Malaysian Chinese population in 2004, drop from 45% in 1957

(33) 2 million Chinese Malaysians had emigrated to overseas since 40 years ago

(34) 0.5 million Indian Malaysians had emigrated to overseas

(35) 3 million Indonesians had migrated into Malaysia and became Malaysian citizens with bumis status

(36) 600000 are the Chinese and Indian Malaysians with red IC and were rejected repeatedly when applying for citizenship for 40 years. Perhaps 60% of them had already passed away due to old age. This shows racism of how easily Indonesians got their citizenship compare with the Chinese and Indians

(41) 0 churches/temples were built for each housing estate. But every housing estate got at least one mosque/surau built

(42) 3000 mosques/surau were built in all housing estates throughout Malaysia since 1970. No churches, no temples are required to be built in housing estates

(43) 1 Catholic church in Shah Alam took 20 years to apply to be constructed. But told by malay authority that it must look like a factory and not look like a church. Still not yet approved in 2004

(44) 1 publishing of Bible in Iban language banned (in 2002)

(45) 0 of the government TV stations (RTM1, RTM2, TV3) are directors of non-malay origins

(46) 30 government produced TV dramas and films always showed that the bad guys had Chinese face, and the good guys had malay face. You can check it out since 1970s. Recent years, this tendency becomes less

(47) 10 times, at least, malays (especially Umno) had threatened to massacre the Chinese Malaysians using May 13 since 1969

(48) 20 constituencies won by DAP would not get funds from the government to develop. Or these Chinese majority constituencies would be the last to be developed

(49) 100 constituencies (parliaments and states) had been racistly re-delineated so Chinese voters were diluted that Chinese candidates, particularly DAP candidates lost in election since 1970s

(50) Only 3 out of 12 human rights items are ratified by Malaysia government since 1960

(51) 0 - elimination of all forms of racial discrimination (UN Human Rights) is not ratified by Malaysia government since 1960s

(52) 20 reported cases whereby malay ambulance attendances treated Chinese patients inhumanely, and malay government hospital staffs purposely delay attending to Chinese patients in 2003. Unreported cases may be 200

(53) 50 cases each year whereby Chinese, especially Chinese youths being beaten up by malay youths in public places. We may check at police reports provided the police took the report, otherwise there will be no record

(54) 20 cases every year whereby Chinese drivers who accidentally knocked down malays were seriously assaulted or killed by malays

(55) 12% is what ASB/ASN got per annum while banks fixed deposit is only about 3.5% per annum

There are hundreds more racial discriminations in Malaysia to add to this list of "colossal" racism. It is hope that the victims of racism will write in to expose racism.

Malaysia government should publish statistics showing how much malays had benefited from the "special rights" of malays and at the same time tell the statistics of how much other minority races are being discriminated.

Hence, the responsibility lies in the Malaysia government itself to publish unadulterated statistics of racial discrimination.

If the Malaysia government hides the statistics above, then there must be some evil doings, immoral doings, shameful doings and sinful doings, like the Nazi, going on onto the non-malays of Malaysia.

Civilized nation, unlike evil Nazi, must publish statistics to show its treatment on its minority races. This is what Malaysia must publish.

We are asking for the publication of the statistics showing how "implementation of special rights of malays" had inflicted colossal racial discrimination onto non-malays.

I believe many malaysian Indians suffer because of many of us are selfish and greedy in this country. When we know it very well our indian friends needs alot of help and support to become equal with other malaysians we would not stretch out our hands to help.Even some malaysian Indians think they are of a better class because of their higher education background or they are wealthier or they are of different class and they would not bother to help generously and even they want to they just give out like crumbs to them like dogs. Some do it for self gain or exploit others. This group of people will not rock the boat even they know things are going not right in this country, just because their business are making good money and they are living in comfort. In any society if we are not caring and share our resources to help others and at the end we will have to pay the price for any
untowards bad incident happen in our home or country.Greed and selfishness had caused so much of heartache and sufferings in many, families, societies or countries.Even we think others will do the sharing and caring and we can leave it to them, this kind of mentality if many people think that way is like allowing many drops of bad water to fall into the ocean and it can still cause a disaster.I just plead with all fellow malaysians and especially our leaders to think seriously as how can we bless our neighbours so that we can really have a country with people who are united and patriotic
or else we are just bluffing ourselves and will have to pay the price for many troubles to come.May peace be with us.

Human Book is trying to Incite hate sentimen towards Malay by giving false claim.
some are:

1)5 major banks n 4 are controlled by malays? ... from what i know at least 2 are controlled by Chinese..Hong Leong & Public Bank.

Btw whats wrong with Malay Managing a bank?

2)Not 99% of petronas directors are Malays...refer to annual report 25% are not Malay.

Btw most of public listed companies in Msia has 80% chinese director n there are more than 1400 public listed companies in malaysia..

it should not be a big deal if 10 or 15 companies among the 1400 companies are vice - versa. dun be too greedy lah..

is it wrong if 1% of public listed company in malaysia has malays as majority of its directors?

these 2 facts are already not accurate ,, i would assume MOST of his other points are not accurate too.

3) i dun know bout this.

4) not sure. dun have the stats

5) ... but then i saw chinese who are doing the contract job like building the petrol station, supplying drinks n tit bits etc...

6)are u sure?? i know many chinese companies doesnt have any malay staffs....

7) like the paper yesterday said, Chinese are generally not interested in being a police constable.. n when interviews are opened, application from the chinese community are very small..

i dun think i have the time to rectify all 54 points made by Human Book.

Human book ..pls post your thoughts responsibly .. dun mislead others and incite them to be hateful and angry.

just look at that last point? 12% per annum for ASB ..where did u get that??? 2006 dividend for ASB is 7.3% not 12%...and for ur information ASN is open to all Malaysian not just Bumis..

point 54) where the hell u get that facts where at least 20 chinese drivers are killed or seriously injured by malays..???

its late now... going to sleep..

Anonymous said...

Human book - are these facts?. I know a few for a fact being just lies. I am ASB investor. I think that only 8% divinded was paid to me in the past 5 years. If 12% dividend for ASB as claimed by human book,RM8,000 billion or US$2,285 billion given to Bumi through ASB. How come I didn't get any of this RM8,000 billion. I have been cheated by PNB. Human ketingallan zaman, all kind of unit trusts are available for non-bumi investors.

Don't spread something you are not sure to be the truth. That's the problem with us Malaysians.

Don'tPlayGod said...

I am not sure of all the claims by human book, but at least some of them are true. E.g. transport companies being taken over by Malays. My friend's famil owned a transport company in Kedah many years ago, but had to sell it off to the Malays because their application for new bus routes and renewal of buses were rejected after they refused to sell off their transport company to the Malays. In the 50's to the 60's, there were no Malay-owned banks, and all banks were either foreign-owned or Chinese-owned, or Indian owned. The same scenario as in the transport companies had taken place as the UMNO controlled the Government and hence all approval of permits and licences, thus forcing the non-Malays to sell off their banks to be taken over by the Malays.

In the area of education, the Government has unashamedly and openly made the non-Malays take a more difficult 2-year examination, the STPM, while the Malays had only to take an easier one-year matriculation examination.

Yes, discrimination is openly practised by UMNO, and abetted by the component parties. Kayveas, over to you(since you have such a big mouth).

Nothing but lies, lies and more lies...

His achievements:

10% of MARA technical training for Indians

500 Matriculation seats a year..

The list goes on and on...makes me so sick that i want to puke!

Indians in Malaysian are oppressed? By their own selves, I guess. By your definition of 'oppressed' i think there are 10 times the numbers of Malays are as oppressed as the Indians in Malaysia.

I dont think 1 Indian are more than 10 Malays.

This vicious, coward and corrupted Malaysia government is so afraid of ordinary people, especially the working class, expressing their discontent through peaceful protests - a democratic right.

The main ruling party, Umno elites, capitalist leaders who falsely profess themselves to be devoted Muslims have indeed hijacked the religion.

Almost my whole life, I defended such ideological racial-religious supremacies out of a false sense of patriotism and loyalty. This is why we need to learn, educate ourselves and think critically throughout our lives in order to be a true human being.

Furthermore, to fight against the real enemy - the greedy and corrupted criminals from the ruling elites and capitalist classes, be it from Umno, MIC, MCA and so on - although the Umno leaders are the most and main deceitful culprits.

Opposition parties globally also need to be heading towards this, especially against the extremely vicious and corrupted Third World ruling elites, governments and capitalist classes.

· Canada is one of the highest per capital income in the world now.
· Canada is one of the most developed countries in the world now.
· Canada allows both English and French as its official languages.
· Canada builds many 100% government subsidized French primary and secondary schools and French medium universities.
· Canada has very liberal policy in education and language.
· Ratio of English speaking citizens vs. French speaking citizens is almost similar to malays and Chinese in Malaysia.

What is Malaysia now? Discrimination, discrimination and more discrimination!

Hahaha, once again we should appreciate the stupidity of government officials. This is great opportunity to embarrass them more……..not that they have not embarrassed themselves bad enough.

Umno, which effectively runs the government, is riddled with corruption and cronyism.

Members crave for the award of lucrative government contracts given out under the pretext of the NEP. But the party is filled with bureaucrats with no management skills and no productive economic skills.

In a freely competitive market, they would be in the lower rungs of the public sector or would have lost their jobs altogether. To maintain their way of life, they have to ensure that the NEP is continued at all costs.

A large segment of the malays are still poor after 36 years of the NEP and on top of this, the income disparity between the poor and the rich has widened. Clearly, the NEP as a method of equalising economic disparity has failed.

The benefits of the NEP to the poor malays is a pittance compared to the benefits to the rich and well connected malays. It is in reality a facade and tool for the elite and rich malays - who are in the minority - to continue their extravagant way of life at the expense of the rest on the country.

The cost of the NEP so far include a government which makes decisions first and studies the impact later, an incompetent and inefficient public service, bailouts of well connected companies, brain drain, declining education standards, increased racial polarisation, unemployable graduates who are mostly malays - just about everything that is wrong in this country!

Each time I read such comments, it always makes me feel how lucky I am to out of Malaysia.

Emigration is not for everybody but those who have done so, ultimately feel highly rewarded in terms of the future for themselves and their kids.

Imagine them growing in an environment devoid of racial, ethnic and religious discrimination.

More importantly, they are now exposed to a wider community that embraces multiculturism, meritocracy, fair go and personal freedom.

Guess which group will be better equipped to face the future challenges in this world?

To all the pathetic malay folks, use brain a little bit before you write down your comment on this board.

Imagine what will happen if all the non-malays leave this country, do you think you guys still have the privilege of all the favor policy from your same color skin brother government, such as 30% equity, discount at buying asset, easy access to government contract, education scholarship etc?

It is very likely to disappear all of a sudden right! Because when that time come, you guys will have not any scapegoat to blame for, and to verge your disgruntle feeling - stuff like "ini tanah melayu" collapse……….do you see the logic here, and at that time come, trust me - the progress of Malaysia will come a halt.

Malaysia has been blessed with all the natural resources, and yet our progress never go far enough like the speed of China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan (you know basically the orient - the yellow man) where there is no resources at all - and recently travel to Hong Kong, I was amazed that economy activity in this tiny island (comparable to Singapore), and the efficiency of the people here.

I guess your thin brain malay-led government is not doing a good job. They are more interested of pressing down the interest of their brother, and pushing up the interest of one party at all cost, instead of the whole country progress.

I laugh at you.

It is about time Pak Lah should stop all the international scenes and stay home to solve the national problems.

No good governance at home, and he is now preaching for good international governance? Why do we vote for people who are so adept at wasting time?

Isn't he pathetic? Promising so many things to the citizens and yet, nothing to be deliver, now he want to "preach" at international level. Pak Lah simply amazing.

Has he changed anything? Has anything changed?

Anyways, what happens at home will too reflect on the outside. So, I hope Pak Lah might realise this and make an effort to clean house.

NEP as implemented has always involved using government funds for the intended beneficiaries.

When it was the intention of the government to create the richest malay to head the list of richest individuals, now announced by the prime minister, the government adopts the policy to give public funds directly or indirectly to private individuals so that he/she can become the richest individual malay in the country.

Mahathir declared that NEP would have met its objective when the government was able to create a millionaire among the malays. It was the first time he extended the objective of NEP to make malay millionaires, and facilitated the use of public funds to enrich his cronies. Badawi now extends the creation of malay millionaires to become malay billionaires, and also to lead in the list of the richest individuals in the country.

It is clear to the whole world that NEP created unfair hardships to the non-malays no matter how Umno wanted to justify it. Unlike article 153 which was supposed to be reviewed after 15 years from 1957, NEP was to be implemented for 20 years from 1970. There was no provision for extension, and the only clearly stated quantitative target was that malays were to achieve 30% of corporate ownership after 20 years.

Badawi pretended that he wanted to be a prime minister for all Malaysians, and called for malays to forgo crutches. At the same time, he conveniently resurrected NEP and extended it to 2020, and his deputy suggested the continuation until 2057, for the present.

Prime minister and his deputy promised a year ago to reveal the methodology adopted by EPU, to challenge the results of ASLI finding that the 30% target had been achieved. His recent announcement makes ASLI finding irrelevant since NEP will continue forever, whatever the actual results show.

Ordinary malays appear to accept to pay a higher price for their motor vehicles when AP system which was exploited to enrich the well connected malays, they appear happy that NEP is continued even though NEP has caused a decline to their standard of living and level of earning.

They accept that as a cost for enabling malays to lead the list of the richest individuals in the country.

50 years after independence, the people of Malaysia are still searching for an identity. Are they Malays or Muslims first; are they Chinese, Indians or Malaysians first?

This identity crisis is a result of the failure of the BN government, which has ruled Malaysia since independence in 1957, later as the expanded Barisan Nasional.

The truth is that the malays of this country partly owe their independence to the non-malays. The reason was that the British refused to give independence without an agreement from the non-malays.

Another argument put forth by the pro malay special rights group is that, they made a compromise by giving the non-malays their citizenship and in exchange the malays must be given their special privileges.

This argument is the most ridiculous I have heard thus far but in their ignorance some Malaysians still think that citizenship is for a certain race to give. This logic would mean that the minorities will always be seen as foreigners who will never be equal to the malays.

'The Chinese and Indians must accept they are immigrants and they were given citizenships in 1957 on the agreement that the malays are given special rights and privileges.'

Stretching your logic a bit further, are you also suggesting that in America, the Negroes continue to be slaves to the whites, otherwise they give up US citizenship and go back to Africa?

This is stupid idiotic logic. Even if the so-called contract was valid, it was so only in the 50s and 60s.

We are nearly 50 years after independence and all Chinese and Indians have begun citizens. They are no more bound by the so-called social contract which enslaved their ancestors.

Umno is afraid to give up Ketuanan Melayu because it is bankrupt of ideas in competing with others in this 21st century democracy.

Umno's warped logic is that, it is better for country to be backward so long as malays benefit than for country to prosper, where malays are marginalized.

This warped logic is in fact the beginning of the end of the malays who will never progress and compete with others on equal footing and level playing field, so long as they subscribe to Ketuanan Melayu and have crutch mentality in forever relying on special privileges.

Malays will crumble from internal weaknesses and disappear in era of globalization - no need for others to colonize them as Mahathir had constantly raised this bogey.

There can never be equal footing - not even among people of the same race.

It saddens me to see the country I was born in and raised stagnating in so many ways - ideologically, sociologically and technologically.

My dad is a racist; so is my mom. Similarly racists are my brother, sister and relatives. All the Malaysian friends I now have are, and those I had were or at the least had been, racists too. Well, perhaps thanks to all these people, I have become and remain a racist as well.

You see, we are the members of a much larger community: Malaysia - the racist nation!

The term community is somewhat misleading. We are not united as such as a nation should be. We are only united by the fact that all of us - at one time or other - had been are or will become, racists……….

All of us formally became racists in the year of 1971, when racism was institutionalised in Malaysia. Not that racism didn't exist before: it did; it lurked underneath, which as everyone knows - erupted as the May 13 ethnic riots.

Hence came the New Economic Policy, set up to divert the winds off the sails of racism. Ballasting the boat, and listing it in favour of the economically disadvantaged malay Malaysians may lead to Malaysians seeing each other as equals, it was thought.

Then came the 80s, which also gave Dr Mahathir.

Still, racism remained somewhat otherworldly to me. All of us practiced racism, on the streets, in shops, in schools and in the house, but racism was never blatant - at least in my life. That changed as the 80s came to a close.

............

Please tell me, can anyone even imagine a multi-cultural Malaysia nation - where no one discriminates the other on the basis of race, where everyone treats the other as a brother or sister - being run by the same racist parties that exist now? Is such a future even conceptually possible?

It is time for me to descend to earth and crawl back into my racist carapace, and be a realist again. And heap praises on our nation and on the ideals that are so central to its psyche: long live, racism! Long live, racist Malaysia - the model racist nation!

It is no wonder our civil participation is as backward as it is.

Do you have any idea why Singapore is almost the first world country or 30 years better than Malaysia?

One could argue every country has its own laws and policies that place prejudice on certain parties - yes, that is true, but none so shamefully as (Malaysia) those who not only boast about it, take the credit for the successes of these people whom they slam their discriminatory abuses on, and have no intention to change it (and that said with a smug look on the face).

Bangsa Malaysia? Bah, humbug!

It is shocking how the plethora of reports in Malaysia mainstream newspapers are so far from the truth that Malaysians these days only read it to have a good laugh over how creative the editors and group editors of these newspapers are.

As of late, the newspaper reports are not funny. Their lies and propagandas are becoming downright dangerous.

In this new millennium, it is sickening to find journalists abetting and aiding the spread of these lies.

Sadly, you will never hear the truth spoken by true Malaysians in the newspapers.

In addition to wearing yellow on Saturdays, I call on all Malaysians to boycott the mainstream media by not buying New Straits Times, the Star, Utusan or any local newspaper to send a message that we will not be buying into their lies!

I believe ethnic Indians in Malaysia still enjoy more rights than Indian citizens who is living in their own country. India accounts for 40 per cent of the world’s poor and its fiscal deficit is one of the highest in the world. Almost half of Indian women are still illiterate; about 40 million primary school-age children are not in school.

Indian workers form the third largest foreign work force in Malaysia, with 140,000 of them seeking out a living there.

According to the Indian census of 2001, the total population was 1.028 billion. Hindus numbered 827 million or 80.5 %. About 25 per cent, or 24 million, of those Hindus belong to Scheduled Castes and Tribes. About 40 per cent, or 400 million, are “Other Backward Castes”. 15 per cent belonging to the three upper castes. Dominant group of Hindu nationalists come from the three upper castes who constitute about 10 per cent of the total Indian population but controle the civil service and economy. And thus the caste system virtually leaves lower caste Hindus to an oppressed minority.

About 20 per cent, or 200 million, are religious minorities. Muslims constitutes 138 million or 13.4 per cent, Christians 24 million or 2.3 per cent, Sikhs 19 million or 2 per cent, Buddhists 8 million or 0.8 per cent and Jains 4 million or 0.4 per cent. “Others” numbered 6.6 million or 0.6 per cent. Christians provided education at all levels to other religious groups without prosyletisation. According to Tahir Mahmoud, an Indian Muslim journalist, “The 2.3 per cent Christians in the Indian population cater to 20 per cent of all primary education in India, 10 per cent of all the literacy and community health care, 25 per cent of all existing care of destitutes and orphans, 30 per cent of all the handicapped, lepers and AIDS patients etc”.

1.38 billion.Muslims across India are severely under-represented in government employment, including PSUs. Ironically, West Bengal, a communist ruled state reported 0 (zero) percent of Muslims in higher positions in its PSUs. A Muslim child attends school for three years and four months, compared to the national average of four years. Less than two percent of the students at the elite Indian Institutes of Technology comprise of the Muslim community. ( Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee)

According to the National Human Rights Commission, as on 30th June 2004, there were 3,32,112 prisoners in Indian jails out of which 2,39,146 were under trial prisoners. That’s more than 70 per cent. India’s jails hold a disproportionate number of the country’s minority Muslims, a sign of discrimination and alienation from the Hindu majority.

Hindu upper caste men, who constitute just eight per cent of the total population of India, hold over 70 per cent of the key posts across newsrooms in the country. The so-called twice-born Hindu castes dominate 85 per cent key posts despite constituting just 16 per cent of the total population, while the intermediary castes a represent meagre three per cent.

The Hindu Other Backward Class groups, who are 34 per cent of the total population, have a share of just four per cent in the Indian newsrooms. Muslims, who constitute about 13 per cent of the population, control just 4 per cent top posts while Christians and Sikhs have a slightly better representation. But the worst scenario emerges in the case of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) : Based on CSDS study, 2006

India’s subordinate courts have a backlog of over 22 million cases while the 21 high courts and the Supreme Court have 3.5 million and 32,000 pending cases (2006) There were 13 judges for every million people. Merely 7.8% Muslim employees working in Judicial sector of 12 high-Muslim population states surveyed by Sachar Panel.

According to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, India has the highest number of street children in the world. There are no exact numbers, but conservative estimates suggest that about 18 million children live and labor in the streets of India’s urban centers. Mumbai, Delhi and Calcutta each have an estimated street-children population of over 100,000.

The level of child malnutrition in India is among the highest in the world, higher even than some countries in sub-Saharan Africa, says the report ‘Extent of Chronic Hunger and Malnutrition in India’ by the UN’s special rapporteur on the right to food (2006)

When it comes to Human Rights issues in India, it is not ratified the Convention against Torture, its citizens do not have the opportunity to find recourse in remedies that are available under international law. The victims are trapped with the local Hindu caste system, which in every aspect militates against their rights. Many victims conclude that a justice system accessible to the poor of the land does not exist at all.

RSS is the Hindu-supremacist organization that has fueled a rise in anti-Dalit, anti-Muslim, anti-Christian and anti-Sikh violence. . The former ruling party, the BJP is the political arm of the RSS and helped fascism to spread across civil, defence and educational steams of the society. The caste system and the fact that the government machinery is basically controlled by this Hindu-centric group means that violence against vicitims largely goes unpunished.

I believe HINDRAF and Uthay Kumar is closely associated with RSS, a Hindu Taliban who spoil India’s social fabric with fascist ideas. Let us not forget that, Malaysia’s ethnic Indians are mostly from Indian state of Tamil Nadu, an impoverished land lagging with illiteracy and feudalism. The poverty in Tamil Nadu, compelled them to move Sri Lanka, where they are now in war with their hosts, Sinhalese.

Do the ethnic Indians in Malaysia want to come back to India? I bet none of them want to come back to India. Instead of asking for more rights they should try to learn to respect their hosts, the Malaysian people. Only such an attitude will bring them prosperity. Let them not forget the poor and impoverished indian citizens living in their own country.

Future Action - why try to denigrate local Indians by highlighting poverty issues in India. Just becuase there are many poor Indians in India does not mean Malaysian Indians have to accept oppression.
